Rosie's Story: A safe home for the sweetest mum

Rosie the cat was pregnant, lost and alone when she was brought to the home by a concerned member of the public.

We looked after her and gave her a safe and quiet place in our nursery to have her beautiful kittens: Toblerone, Milka and Kinder.

Rosie was a fantastic mum and the kittens grew bigger and bolder every day. They all found happy homes in no time and when Rosie was fit and well, it was finally her turn to go home.

‘When we met her, we both thought ‘yeah, that’s our cat’’

Her new family were still grieving their older cat, also named Rosie, who they had rescued and loved in her final year. They were apprehensive about rehoming again after this difficult experience but as soon as they met Rosie, they knew she was the one.

‘I appreciated so much, how much I could tell that everyone at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home cared for Rosie and wanted to make sure that she found the best home. But also how you cared about our experience and that we were comfortable too.’

They tell us that Rosie is incredibly affectionate, and settled into their home straight away. ‘We had the spare room in our house all set up for her. But she was out exploring and asking for belly rubs right away. We should’ve known what we were in for then!’

Rosie’s favourite toy in the world is a little mouse that she brought home with her.

‘When she was at the Home, she had this little mouse that got sent back with her. It was so sweet, because that was her one belonging in the world and she loved that mouse so much. It disintegrated at some point but we were able to find the same one and it’s still her favourite toy.’

Thanks to the support of our generous community, we were able to give Rosie the safety and care that she needed to birth her babies, and find happy homes for every one of them.

Rosie has brought so much joy to our lives,’ says Laura. ‘I can’t imagine our home without her now.’
