Our Rehoming Process

See below for our step by step guide to our rehoming process so you know what will happen at each stage and how to apply to adopt.
Love without limits love without limits Love without limits love without limits

1. Keep an eye on our website

There may not be an animal who’s a match for you right now, but we update the website regularly so please keep checking!

Adopting a rescue can be a hugely rewarding experience and our dogs and cats have a lot of love to give. Please consider waiting until you find an animal who suits your needs.

2. Submit an application form for the dog or cat you want to rehome

At the bottom of each animal’s profile, you can click to start an application form which is completed online or click here

It’s really important that we make the best possible match for each dog and cat to prevent them having to return to us. Some animals receive hundreds of applications, and it takes a lot of time to go through them!

We’re looking for plenty of information about your previous experience with pets, if you’ve had to deal with a pet’s challenging behaviour or medical needs, if you have other pets or children in your home or visiting regularly.

This is your chance to tell us why you think you’d be a fantastic match for the animal, so please don’t hold back on the detail!

3. We’ll reach out to you

Please check your email for confirmation that we’ve received your application. Be aware that this may have gone to your junk inbox.

It can take us some time to get through all the applications we receive, so please be patient while we get back to you.

Within a week we’ll reach out to you via email or a phone call to let you know if your application has been successful or not. If you get a call, try to make sure you’re free for at least a 20-minute conversation to go through a more in-depth application. If it’s not a good time, let us know so we can schedule a call back.

4. Time for your first visit!

If we think you could be a good match for the dog or cat you’ve applied for, we’ll invite you down to the Home for a visit.

Depending on the needs of the animal, this may look like a cuddle in their cat pen or playing catch in one of our paddocks. We might even go for an off-site walk to show you how they behave on the lead.

It’s important to note that an invitation for a visit doesn’t guarantee a successful match. The reason we do these visits is to make sure that you and the animal are comfortable with each other and will be a good fit for each other.

Our team have the right to stop the process if they feel that the fit isn’t right. Likewise, the applicant has the right to withdraw their application at this stage too.

5. Further visits and information

All animals on the website are ready to go, meaning rehoming can take as little as a week. Please ensure you’re currently ready for a new pet at the time of applying.

When we have several applications which match an animal’s criteria, we will advance those who can visit earliest.

Some have had difficult past experiences and will need a few visits to feel comfortable around you. Our team will let you know if you’ll need to come for another visit with the animal, or if you are ready for the next step.

They will also answer any of your questions and provide information about their medical history and training requirements to help you understand all of the animal’s needs.

6. It’s home time!

If everything goes well, the next step is to book a rehoming appointment and get ready to bring your new family member home!

If you need to bring anything such as a cat carrier, harness, or blankets, our team will let you know in advance. We’ll help you complete the final paperwork and take a payment for the adoption fee.

Every animal goes home with a month’s pet insurance coverage, and dogs will also get a small supply of the food they have been eating to avoid tummy issues from changing their diet. If they have a favourite toy or blanket, they can take that with them to help them settle in. There is also the option to buy an adoption pack which costs £30 for a dog, or £17 for the cat pack. These contain some of the essential items you need to help care for your pet, as well as one free training session and two free paddock sessions for dog owners.

7. Settling in

Our support and guidance don’t stop the day you walk out the door! A member of the team will check in with you a little while after you’ve taken your new family member home to see how you’re getting on and offer advice if needed.

Our top tips for settling in are:

  • Take our team’s advice (training/settling in etc.) They know what they are talking about and want this rehoming to be successful as much as you do.
  • If you are having problems, ask for help! We’re here to advise you and our Facebook Rehoming Group is full of helpful pet owners who’ve been through the same challenges you’re experiencing.
  • Don’t overwhelm your pet by taking them to different places soon after rehoming or having visitors around to meet them
  • Get a routine in place from day one.
  • Don’t make a huge fuss about them when you get them home – give them the time and space to explore their new surroundings.
  • Do not let dogs off lead or cats outside right away – we recommend waiting at least one month.
