WITHOUT US, AND WITHOUT YOU, WHERE WOULD THEY BE NOW?

‘If I had to give my pets up, I’d be devastated. There would be no point in living.’ – for foodbank user, Susan Gibson, her pets are her lifeline.

And she’s not alone, demand for support from our pet foodbanks continues to rise. Between January and July this year we distributed 414,316 meals, the equivalent of providing vital food for one animal every ten minutes.

We’re also seeing a dramatic increase in surrender requests; in July we had a 236% increase in requests from October 2022.

On top of this, there are more and more animals coming to us with established behavioural issues or severe health problems. This not only drives up our cost of care but adds to the labour and emotional burden of our kennel team, vets and dog trainers.

GIVE NOW

Whether through our preventative community work, or our dedication to caring for and rehoming the animals who come to us, we give our all to support dogs and cats in East and Central Scotland.

Where there is hope for a home, we will never give up.

‘I was so worried about how I was going to feed my cat as I was so short of money. My cat is my only companion, I’m so grateful for this help.’ – Anonymous, Pet Foodbank User

How you can help

A gift to the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home helps us to provide:

  • Medical care for animals whether it’s a health check or specialised treatment.
  • Rehabilitating training and enrichment to help animals in our care build enough confidence and social skills to be successfully rehomed.
  • A lifeline of support for pet foodbank users like Susan, who would otherwise be faced with unthinkable decisions.
  • A warm, safe space for the animals who come through our doors to recover and rebuild their strength, health, and trust.
