Here at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, we strive to make sure that every pet has the loving home it deserves. And we get our claws into our cause.

What we do

For 140 years, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has been there for the dogs and cats who need us.

We give our all to keep loving homes whole by providing food and advice through Pet Food Banks and Pet Care Clinics. And when that’s not possible, we take in the animals who need us and love them as if they were our own. We give every dog and cat the best level of care we can, from food and veterinary care to training and enrichment, all to get them ready for their future family.

In a perfect world, we wouldn’t exist. But in the meantime, we’ll continue to love without limits, helping people and their pets in whatever way we can.

Our Mission

We run a loving Home, we find loving homes and we protect loving homes.

We believe in a world where loving homes are kept whole, because we recognise that where there is a pet in crisis, there is often a person in crisis.

We look at the whole picture and want to take preventative action that changes the story for pets and people. To make a real difference to the lives of the people and pets of our community delivered through our mission.

Our Vision

We want to help create a community where all pets and their people are given a second chance at happiness. But, first and foremost, we want to create a world where these dogs and cats would never be given up in the first place.

We plan to achieve this through education, community work, fundraisers, and the political work we do in trying to affect real, lasting change in the field of animal welfare.

We work closely with Council and Police services, members of the public, and businesses both local and national towards making our mission happen. We’ve been going and going and going, day in, day out, since 1883. And we’ll never stop.
