Volunteers are the heart and soul of our work, helping our small staff team rescue, reunite and rehome stray and abandoned dogs and cats across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Put simply, we couldn’t do what we do without them.
The Home offers a variety of volunteering opportunities to adults over the age of 16. From event support to administration and fundraising, there is a role at the Home to suit your experience and availability.
Our volunteers are fully supported with an induction, training, and the reimbursement of agreed travel expenses.
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has a charity shop in Stockbridge, Edinburgh, which offers volunteers the opportunity to gain experience in a retail environment. Volunteer shop assistants sort donations, prepare goods for the sales floor, replenish stock, price items, style displays and interact with the public, ensuring a friendly and welcoming customer shopping experience. These roles are available to anyone over the age of 16.
Volunteer roles that support our Fundraising team are flexible and vary depending on the nature of the event or activities. They can include hosting stalls, bucket collections, selling raffle tickets, promoting campaigns, appeals and events, or wearing our Hamish mascot costume! These roles are available to anyone over the age of 16.
Office volunteers help us with a variety of administrative tasks, which support our vital services to the animals in our care. These roles are varied and can include reception duties, assisting the public with the rehoming process, responding to customer enquiries, answering and directing calls, data entry, filing and photocopying. These roles are available to anyone over the age of 18.
