Love Dogs and Cats? So Do We!

Whether you’re an awesome individual or part of a trust or foundation thinking about supporting the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home – thank you! You’re already our kind of person.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we’ve been showing up for dogs and cats in East and Central Scotland for over 140 years. We don’t get government funding, so every gift makes a real, tail-wagging difference. Your support helps us find loving homes, protect loving homes and run a loving home for hundreds of our furry friends each year.

Our friendly fundraising team would be thrilled to chat about how your love for dogs and cats can power the work we do at our home – and beyond!

We’d love to get to know you more and discuss what can be achieved together. Drop us a line at philanthropy@edch.org.uk. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Donating Shares

Donating stocks or shares is a straightforward, tax-smart way to help us run a loving home for hundreds of dogs and cats each year.

Your gift helps us do more – likes running our fantastic pet first aid courses, offering enrichment to our animals and so much more!

In 2025, some of our key achievements include rehoming 112  animals into forever loving homes, reuniting 95 missing pets with worried owners and seeing 636,311 pet meals provided to families and foodbanks across East and Central Scotland. This is big stuff, life-changing stuff for so many in our four-legged and two-legged community.

And hey, it’s not just our furry friends who benefit from a gift of shares—you might get a tax break too. Win-win!

How do I donate my shares?

If Your Shares Are Worth Less Than £1,000

Sometimes small shareholdings aren’t worth selling because of the fees involved. But don’t worry — you can still put them to good use!

Just donate them through ShareGift — a UK charity that collects small shareholdings, sells them, and gives the money to charities (like EDCH!).

What to do:

  • Fill in the form with your share details.
  • Be sure to mention “The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home” as your chosen charity.

**While we can’t guarantee we’ll receive the funds, ShareGift takes donor suggestions seriously when deciding where the money goes.

If Your Shares are worth more than £1,000

Please drop us an email at philanthropy@edch.org.uk and we’ll help you get started.

Supporter Stories - Andrew and Carol

Andrew and Carol have been incredible supporters of EDCH since 2020. Their journey began with a heartfelt gift to our Emergency Appeal during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, their generosity has continued to grow—contributing to our 2023 Winter Appeal and, most recently, making a wonderful impact by offering a match donation for our 2025 Winter Appeal. Their gift inspired others to give more, amplifying the difference we could make together.

Their gift inspired others to give more, amplifying the difference we could make together.

But their support goes far beyond donations. Andrew and Carol regularly volunteer their time, from cheering on our fundraisers taking part in challenge events to representing our Home at pooch coffee mornings. And in 2024, they opened their hearts and home to Willow, a gorgeous dog they rehomed from us—a true testament to their commitment to animal welfare.

Reflecting on their journey with EDCH, Andrew and Carol said:

“Much like the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s mission statement, we believe in the importance of the relationship between humans and their pets and how they bring families together.  We started volunteering a few years after we lost our 16 year old Westie, Lily.  We were not ready to welcome a new dog into our life at the time but wanted to help those in need and found the EDCH to be a great match.  Knowing that the right dog would come to us when the time was right, a cute little fluff ball named Willow became available and literally jumped into our laps and our hearts.”

We are deeply grateful for Andrew and Carol’s unwavering support and belief in our mission. Together, we’re creating brighter futures for dogs and cats in need across central Scotland.

Supporter Stories - Weir Charitable Trust

The Weir Charitable Trust started supporting the Edinburgh Cat and Dog Home in 2025. The trust awarded EDCH a grant of just under £25,000 for the purchase of a new foodbank van. This new van will be invaluable to ensure our pet foodbank collections and drop-offs happen on time in the future.

Lorraine Tait, Director of The Weir Charitable Trust said “The Trust is delighted to support the purchase of a new van for EDCH’s pet foodbank and community engagement work.    We recognise the work of the team at EDCH’s pet food bank who deliver pet food and supplies to families in need, ensuring their much loved pets remain in a family home”.

This new van will be invaluable for the smooth running of our pet food bank and we are enormously grateful for the support of The Weir Charitable Trust.
