You’re invited to Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s annual Community Day Event- your dog’s dream day out! Come pick up helpful tips and treats for your furry friends and join us for a pup-filled afternoon of games, competitions and waggly-tailed fun.

DATE: 7 September 2025
TIME: 11am – 3pm
LOCATION: Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, 26 Seafield Road East, Edinburgh EH15 1EH
TICKET PRICE: Free for all!

We’re inviting friends, old and new, to join us for an afternoon of family, dog-friendly fun and activities to celebrate our Home!

Come and show off your dog’s handsome face and waggly tail in one of our competitions, learn expert animal-care tips, and put your pup’s self-control to the test in the notorious ‘Temptation Alley’.

Join us in the big paddock at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home from 11am-3pm on Sunday 7 September for what will be your dog’s favourite ever day out!

  • Show-off your gorgeous pup in competitions like handsomest boy, prettiest girl and waggiest tail.
  • Treat pets (and yourself) to goodies and tasty food from a host of local stall holders.
  • See if your dog has what it takes to make it to the end of Temptation Alley without stopping for the treats and toys along the way – or come to watch the hilarity!
  • Enjoy fun for all the family with kid’s corner.
  • Spend an afternoon surrounded by more pup’s than people!

This event is totally free. Show up for as little or as long as you like – we can’t wait to see you there!

Family fun and a day your dog will love is what our Community Day is about.

How to get there?

It’s about a 20-minute walk along the waterfront from Portobello Beach to the Home.

Alternatively, the 12 and 45 bus routes run to Bus Depot 1 on Seafield Road. From there it is a 10-minute walk to the Home.

Can I bring my dog?

Please do! All well-behaved pups on a lead are welcome.

Can I bring my cat?

Sadly not! The presence of cats would be too stressful and disruptive for our doggy visitors.
There will be cat-friendly goodies and treats on sale and our animal trainers and education officers love to share their feline knowledge and advice so be sure to chat to them about your cat!

Do I need to buy a ticket?

No – this event is totally free and un-ticketed.
