Venchie Children and Young People Project is a charity which supports kids and families in the Craigmillar area of Edinburgh. Since 2020, they’ve been working with Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home to offer pet food support to the community.

Joyce is one of the people who receives pet food from them. She tells us. ‘My pets mean everything to me. They mean the world. They’re my kids.’

Joyce has four cats, a 22-year-old, two 18-year-olds and a 15-year-old. She took them in as strays when they were all kittens and says, ‘with the help of the Venchie, they’ve all had a long life.’

She’s been accessing pet food support from the Venchie and Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home since the partnership began. Joyce shares that receiving free pet food helps her stretch her money further, ‘I can keep my gas on a bit longer to heat the house and keep us all warm.’

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home provides food and resources to over 80 pet food banks across East and Central Scotland, helping hundreds of people like Joyce to care for their pets every month. In 2024, we provided 674,735 pet meals to East and Central Scotland to protect loving homes.
