Summer's story: Making up for lost time
Summer was found alone, starving and scared, with a broken jaw and wounds across her body. She had to wear a ‘mikki’ muzzle to keep her jaw in place for eight weeks while it healed. During this time she could only eat a specialised liquid diet.
Summer coped remarkably well with this uncomfortable treatment, and as she started to feel better, her playful personality began to shine through.
Senior Animal Welfare Carer, Ainsley, remembers caring for her:
‘For the first few weeks she was very subdued and shy, she would spend her days mostly sunbathing on her bed outside.
As her pain lessened and she gained weight and energy, then her real personality started to shine through! Summer is energetic, playful, cheeky and very affectionate.
She was desperate to run and play but she to wait until vet gave her the all clear. After her eight weeks of treatment she was finally able to get the muzzle off and run free off-lead, she had a lot of energy to burn!’
Thanks to donations from Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home supporters, this scared girl received the pain relief, medical care and love she deserved.
Summer soon made doggy friends who she loved to run and play with. Ainsley told us: ‘She wants to say hello to everyone she meets. She’s just a really happy and outgoing dog, she isn’t the quiet girl we first met.’
Summer has now found the loving forever home that she deserves after all she’s been through.
‘She’s not had the best start to life but she’s certainly making up for lost time and her new family are lucky to have her.’
