In memory of former Chair, Doreen Graham MBE
After a career dedicated to journalism, Doreen became a valued member of our Board in 2009. She generously lent us her knowledge and expertise for 15 years, first as press officer and editor of the Annual Report, before being appointed Vice-Chair, and then Chair in 2019.
She previously said, ‘One of my greatest joys was being part of the launch of the Home’s Pet Food Bank, which works to keep pets with their owners from Stirling to the Scottish border.’
And we’re not the only ones who benefited from her knowledge and passion; Doreen also worked as a spokesperson for the SSPCA, among other charity roles.
After standing down from her role as Chair in 2023, in June 2024, Doreen was awarded an MBE for her services to animal welfare.
Our CEO, Jamie Simpson, remembers Doreen fondly;
‘Doreen was a huge champion of the Home, serving on the Board for 15 years and continuing to advocate and fundraise for us at every opportunity thereafter.
She dedicated her career to promoting and advocating for animal welfare and was awarded an MBE in recognition of this incredible work after she stepped down as our Chair.
Doreen’s positivity, energy and enthusiasm were infectious, and she will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.’
Our condolences to Doreen’s family, her impact on our Home will long be remembered.
