Haggis’s story: ‘It’s like he was always meant to come to us.’
Lisa and Brian had been looking to adopt a dog for a while without much luck, until one night, when scrolling on social media, Haggis’s profile appeared. Brian grew up with collies and has a real soft spot for the breed so they were drawn to Haggis right away. ‘His image and his name just grabbed me. I turned to Brian and he said ‘Go for it!’ so I submitted an application. You guys called us over the weekend and we had him home on the Tuesday!’
‘They had asked us if things went well, would we be prepared to take him home the same day we visited, but we still tried not to get our hopes up as we’d been down that road before.’
‘We were so excited to meet him, I think we’d already made our minds up that he was coming home with us!’
Haggis had found the kennel environment difficult, but he settled straight into Lisa’s house. ‘He just fit in right away, there was no strangeness about it. He just came in and there were cuddles on the couch and nice big long walks and it seemed like he was thinking ‘this is great!’.
Haggis has even enjoyed his first holiday in Lisa and Brian’s campervan where he loved ‘running around like a madman and jumping in the water’, but he’s still getting used to the canoe. His favourite thing is nuzzling in for a big hug with his paws around Lisa’s neck, and squeezing on to laps for tight cuddles.
Lisa and Haggis have been working together on training his recall and he loves playing with his ball. She tells us, ‘It was the perfect match at the perfect time. I think he was meant to come to us and we were meant for each other.’
‘He has so much love to give. We have so much love for him… He’s such a beautiful, beautiful little dog.’
