Copper's Story: From frightened stray to cherished member of the family

Love, commitment, patience and cuddles helped transform Copper overcome his fears and transform from a terrified stray to a relaxed and fun-loving member of the family.

Copper came to us as a stray early last year. He was absolutely terrified and especially frightened of visiting the vet. His kennel parents worked hard to help him understand that he was safe now.

When he got a little braver, he loved his training sessions.

His kennel mum said that ‘once he got to know you, he would do anything for a tasty treat’.

But Copper was still anxious, and we knew that he would need a patient and stable home. His new family, Aaron and Lucy, fell in love at first sight. They understood his anxieties and were willing to put in the work, visiting five times to slowly build trust until he was ready to go home.

Copper is now settled happily with Aaron, Lucy and his cat sister, Pip, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing.

Lucy shares we’re so pleased that we pushed through the difficult first few weeks – he is such a loving, cheeky boy we couldn’t imagine our little family without.’

Copper’s favourite thing is chasing tennis balls into the sea, and wedging himself between Aaron and Lucy on the sofa. He even has dog friends who he enjoys pack walks with a couple times a week!

Life couldn’t be better for Copper

Copper is no longer a frightened stray, he’s now a cherished member of the family. And he’s not even scared of the vet anymore!

His new mum, Lucy, tells us,Copper has been one of the best things that we’ve brought into our little family’.
