About Us

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has been part of the fabric of our city since 1883, working in partnership with local authorities and police services by welcoming lost, stray and abandoned pets from all corners of Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Our Mission

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home believes that every unwanted or abandoned animal deserves a voice and the chance to be safe, warm and well fed. We work tirelessly to find permanent, loving homes for those in need, however long it takes.

Our History

The Home has come a long way since 1883. From our first site at Comely Bank Gardens, to our current location by the beach at Seafield Road East, find out more about the history that has shaped our much-loved animal welfare charity.

Our People

The team at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home work tirelessly to rescue, reunite and rehome lost, stray and abandoned dogs and cats who come to us at their most vulnerable. Find out more about our dedicated staff, Trustees and Animal Champions.

In the absence of any regular government or statutory funding, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has only been able to continue its vital work thanks to ongoing community support and the generosity of our partners.

We work with a range of groups, organisations and the Scottish Government to carry out our important advocacy work to promote the welfare of dogs and cats across Scotland and the UK.

Looking to further your career in a dynamic organisation dedicated to animal welfare? The Home employs a variety of staff across its operational, business support and fundraising functions.
