Celebrating 140 years of Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home

For over 140 years, we’ve been giving our all to find loving homes, protect loving homes and run a loving Home for dogs and cats in East and Central Scotland.
140 YEARS OF OUR HOME 140 YEARS OF OUR HOME

It’s our birthday!

This year marks 140 years of Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home.

In 1884, founders William Chambers and Dr John Brown knew that there was a better way to manage Edinburgh’s stray dogs, so they began campaigning for a dog home for the city.

Thanks to them, thousands of dogs and cats have had a second chance at a happy home in the 140 years since we opened our doors.

Did you know?

Founder, William Chambers, even helped Edinburgh’s most famous dog, Greyfriars Bobby, get a second chance at life when he paid for his dog license in 1867.
