Memory Trees

The Home has unveiled two sculptural memory trees, which aim to celebrate the lives of pets that have had an enormous impact on our lives, but have sadly crossed rainbow bridge.

We often welcome visitors to the Home who have recently lost a pet or need to surrender their dog or cat that they can no longer care for. Grieving the loss of pet or saying goodbye to an animal can be a sad and difficult experience.

We understand that losing a pet can lead to loneliness and depression and surrendering an animal can leave individuals with a strong sense of guilt. The Home hopes that the garden and trees will be a positive step towards helping our community cope with these feelings.

If you would like to dedicate a leaf on both our physical and virtual trees, please give our Fundraising Team a call on 0131 669 5331 or email and we will be happy to arrange this for you.

Physical Memory Tree

In 2019 Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home opened ‘Leo’s Garden’, a reflection garden to allow the public a private space to reflect and remember their pet. Within the garden are two beautifully crafted memory trees where people can dedicate a leaf in memory of their pet.

Funded by Tesco Bags of Help initiative, the trees are each hand sculpted holding 115 leaves which will be inscribed with your pet’s name for a year. After this period, you can choose to renew for another year.  This will help raise vital funds for the Home’s work to rescue, reunite and rehome the city’s lost and abandoned pets.

Virtual Memory Tree

Built by Edinburgh based software company Forrit, who are partners of the Home, the site enables you to purchase a virtual leaf in tribute to your dog or cat, upload a favourite image and leave a short message to commemorate them. Friends and family can visit the site with the added option of making a donation in memory. This will help raise vital funds for the Home’s work to rescue, reunite and rehome the city’s lost and abandoned pets.
