Terms and Conditions

We are very grateful that you have chosen to fundraise for the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home. As a local charity with no regular government funding, we could not carry on our vital work without your support. It costs around £2million each year to keep our gates open for the lost, stray and abandoned dogs and cats of Edinburgh and the Lothians. The terms and conditions below are intended to help you carry out your fundraising; please read them carefully before you start to fundraise.

  1. You should display the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s registered Scottish charity number whilst fundraising: SC 006914
  2.  Please refer to your fundraising as being ‘in aid of’ (and not ‘on behalf of’) the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home. This means you do not represent the charity.
  3. By law, you will be a trustee of any funds raised and must ensure that all donations and sponsorship money from your event is paid to the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home. You must inform potential donors if any amount or percentage of the funds you raise will not be paid to the charity.
  4. You understand that if you do something that threatens or damages the name or reputation of the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home we will ask you to stop fundraising immediately.
  5. When gaming or livestreaming, you should not participate in any animal cruelty acts. The Home reserves the right to not accept a donation if we see fit.
  6. If you are collecting personal information from donors directly, remember that there are requirements under the Data Protection Act 1998 relating to how you deal with that information.
  7. Please encourage eligible donors/sponsors to make gift aid declarations. Gift Aid is one of the simplest and most effective ways of giving to charity. It is a scheme administered by HMRC which allows us to claim 25p for every £1 that you donate. So, for example, if you donate £20 we can claim an extra £5, making your gift worth £25. You simply need to have paid or will pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax that is at least equal to the tax that the Home and other charities you donate to will reclaim on your donations in a tax year. This will make the most of your fundraising efforts by enabling us to recover basic rate tax on donations. Find out more here.
  8. You may only use fundraising materials that you have a right to copy and use. You will need our written consent to reproduce the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Homes name and logo yourself. The provided digital livestreaming graphics may be used without permission only if you have linked the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home to your fundraising page.
  9. We would like to receive photographs and/or videos of your livestream – if you wish to share these with us, please email them to fundraising@edch.org.uk and we may use them to promote your fundraising activity and raise awareness of our work.
  10. If you are under 18, your parent/guardian takes responsibility for you under these T&C (which you have shown them), please also ensure they are happy about what you’ve chosen to do.
  11. If you no longer wish to receive communication from us and/or you wish to change your communication preferences, or find out information on how we use your data, including details of our privacy policy, please contact dataprotection@edch.org.uk or call us on 0131 669 533.
