Purr-fect Presents for Every Pet
With Christmas only a matter of weeks away, many of us may be scrambling to pick the perfect present for every friend and family member, let us not forget our furry friends, too!
Below, we’ve shared a bunch of gift ideas for dogs and cats, with ideas for every type of pet or pet owner. We hope you find something suitable – and have a very Merry Christmas.
For those motivated by food
Christmas could be the perfect opportunity for a food bowl upgrade – why not add an extra layer of enrichment to meal time with a puzzle feeder?
Puzzle feeders come in an enormous range of shapes, sizes and difficulties. Some require physical manipulation to release food, some have the animal use their hunting drive, others need a little more brain power to figure out. My personal favourite for my own cat are Doc & Phoebe’s indoor hunting feeders, which let Misty explore the house to hunt ‘mice’ each morning.
For the fashionistas
While getting curled up in front of a cosy fire might be the dream of every pet, winter walkies sometimes mean venturing out in less-than-dreamy conditions.
Jennifer Mullen, Retail Manager at the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home Stockbridge shop says that “at this time of the year you can’t go wrong with a wee waterproof jacket to keep fur babies dry and warm. We have a range of sizes in stock to suit all dogs, large or small. Prices range between £5 and £15. What could be better for those Christmas morning walkies?”
For those who love playtime
If you’re after the perfect toy to suit the season, our charity shop in Stockbridge and reception shop in Seafield have a great range of Christmas-themed soft toys from Ancol, including Santas, reindeers, a gingerbread person, and even an enormous Brussel sprout! Prices start from only a couple quid.
For those on a budget
Why not get creative with a craft this Christmas?
Old towels can be torn up and braided in to a low-budget tug toy, or an empty egg carton could make the perfect puzzle feeder. You could try knitting a new blanket to keep a pet cosy this winter, or find an interesting use for a cardboard box before recycling it. There are loads of homemade present ideas for pets right across the internet – we’d love to hear yours!
For those looking to share a drink with their best friend
Don’t let the four-legged family members miss out on the festivities – a bottle of ‘Bottom Sniffer’ beer or ‘Pawsecco’ for your dog or cat means they can stay involved if you’ll be sharing a celebratory drink over the holidays!
These are popular gift ideas year-round from our reception and Stockbridge shops, and we’ve stocked up in time for Christmas. Single bottles are available for £3 or twin packs for £7.
For your human friends
We have a range of special Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home Christmas cards at our store in Stockbridge and on sale at reception in Seafield. Just £3 for ten and perfect if you want to spread some Christmas cheer or just say ‘hi’ to friends and family.
For every pet owner
Let’s be honest, our pets will probably be oblivious to it all come December 25th – and they probably feel like every day is Christmas when they get to spend time with their favourite human. So be sure to set some time aside amidst all the festivities for walks, cuddles, scritches… and maybe an extra treat or two!
