Surrender A Pet

We are currently closed and are unable to accommodate walk-ins. Our telephone lines remain open seven days a week, please call if you wish to bring an animal to us and our team will provide more information. – Contact Us

At Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home we understand that choosing to surrender a pet can be an extremely difficult decision, but that changes in living arrangements, ill health, financial difficulty or other factors can make it necessary for the long-term welfare of the animal.

If you feel that surrendering your dog or cat is the right choice for you, we recommend phoning Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home on 0131 669 5331 first, so our staff can talk you through the surrendering process.

We also understand that surrendering a pet may be the result of personal crisis. The following services may be able to assist:

  • PDSA is the UK’s leading vet charity, providing free and low-cost treatment to pets in need
  • Shelter helps people in housing need by providing advice and practical assistance
  • GOV.UK provides information on housing and other benefits
  • Samaritans offer free, 24-hour emotional support to anyone in need

Surrendering an animal can only be done during our opening hours of 9am-4pm, at our rehoming centre at 26 Seafield Road East, EH15 1EH. Unfortunately, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home doesn’t have the available resource to collect surrendered dogs and cats.
