Living Wage Award Nomination

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is incredibly proud to announce that we have been nominated for a Living Wage Award in the ‘Scotland Newcomer of the Year’ category.

We’re aware that roles within animal welfare and animal care are often not very well paid. Motivation is often more of a calling than for financial reward. The Home has changed that notion by embracing the real Living Wage, recognising the skill, professionalism and expertise that is required to work with animals, particularly rescue animals. We are the first animal welfare organisation in Scotland to embrace this important change and we are extremely proud to be seen as industry leaders and trend setters.

We always think: “happy people, happy animals.” And as an animal-focused organisation we recognise that by ultimately valuing our people and what they do we are valuing our animals, the quality of their care and the second chance at life that we hope to give them with a new family. Our most powerful and influential asset is our team of dedicated people who help the Home achieve its mission and its vision day in and day out.

Lindsay Fyffe-Jardine, Deputy to the CEO and Director of Operations, at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home said:

“The team are thrilled to be shortlisted for our work as a newcomer to the Living Wage Scheme. We are proud to be the first animal welfare organisation in Scotland to achieve this status and we hope that by us becoming a finalist that we can inspire others to recognise the value of the Living Wage. Being a small and local organisation hasn’t held us back in recognising the value that our team bring to our critical mission.”

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has been nominated as ‘Scotland Newcomer of the Year’ alongside Abertay University and Scottish Veterans Residences, winners will be announced on Friday 15 November.
