Listen to the First Winning Tell Your Tail Story, Read by Six-Year-Old Jacob

The animals at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, patiently awaiting their forever home, were treated to a very special story as part of our new Tell Your Tail storywriting competition.

Tell Your Tail invites primary-school-aged children across Scotland to write a short story and submit it to us. Each month one is chosen and the author is invited to the rehoming centre to be recorded reading their story. This recording is then played via the sound system installed in the kennels, providing crucial auditory enrichment for the dogs being cared for at the Home.

This month’s winning story was penned by six-year-old Jacob Bassett, who submitted a beautiful tale about two kittens his family had rehomed from us in 2019. Titled ‘Forever Home’, this adorable short story shares more of Beanie and Boo’s rehoming journey, ending with the promise that “one day it will happen to you – you will find a forever home too”.

The story will be played throughout the kennels across March, but can also be listened to on the Home’s social media channels.

We are now accepting Tell Your Tail submissions for April, which can be emailed to education@edch.org.uk or posted to Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, 26 Seafield Road East, Edinburgh, EH15 1EH. Full details can be found at edch.org.uk/tellyourtail.
