Do You Have What It Takes To Be Top Dog?

On 8 October 2021, you could be amongst business leaders and influencers from across Edinburgh and the Lothians either locked in our dog kennels or taking part remotely to raise funds for Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home.

Regardless of where you are joining from, you will be tasked with the same goal – to raise as much money as you can and compete for the crown of ‘Top Dog’ or ‘Best in Show’ . This year’s ‘Top Dog’ will be the participant who raises the most money on the day, and our brand new title ‘Best in Show’ will be given to the participant who raises the most before and during the event, collectively.

Armed with only a laptop and a mobile phone, you’ll need to reach out to your contacts and social media networks to raise as much as you can for the dogs and cats and, ultimately, be released. Throughout the day you will be rewarded when you reach milestones and the individuals who raise the most by 1pm will be crowned ‘Top Dog’ and ‘Best in Show’.

Together we can create a voice for animal welfare and help raise awareness of local animals and pet owners in need. As well as raising awareness and funds, In the Dog House is about having fun, networking with your peers and, of course, a bit of healthy competition.

The Rules
  1. You will be locked in your kennel from 10am-1pm – you will only be allowed to leave the kennel for comfort breaks. If you leave the kennel for any other reason you forfeit the chance to win the trophies.
  2. You are allowed your mobile phone and laptop or tablet to aid you in your fundraising mission – you will be provided with a Wi-Fi code if you are taking part from the Home. There are no plug sockets in the kennels so make sure your devices are fully charged and we would encourage you to bring a portable charging unit with you. We will have some spare portable chargers on the day, but these will be given out on a first-come first-served basis.
  3. You are welcome to contact your network of potential donors in the lead up to the event and receive donations as soon as your fundraising page is up and running. There will be separate awards, ‘Top Dog’ for the largest amount raised on the day and ‘Best in Show’ for most donations received overall.
  4. As you reach financial milestones throughout the day you will receive treats to enrich your kennel experience – the more you raise, the more rewards you will receive.
Help Our Mission

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is a charity which works to rescue, reunite and rehome stray, lost and abandoned dogs and cats throughout the East of Scotland.

The Home also supports vulnerable pet owners in the community through its pet food bank, Paws Pantry. Through this service the Home helps support pet owners in times of financial difficulty with care packages of pet food and other essentials, helping owners keep their pets with them in happy homes.

Through its education programme, the Home strives to educate the public about responsible pet ownership through talks, workshops, training and events ensuring that the community are well equipped with the information they need to provide for their dog or cat.

It costs around £2 million every year to run Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s essential services. The Home receives no regular government funding and relies on the generous support of the public, companies and charitable trusts to fund its work.
Prepurr’ation is Key

Before the event, you must let us know if you will be participating virtually or with us at the Home. Then, it is time to get your fundraising page set up. All fundraising must be made online through your fundraising page. You are welcome to begin fundraising as soon as your page is set up. We recommend you start early to be in with a chance of winning our title ‘Best In Show’! The participant that raises the most on the day of the event will be crowned ‘Top Dog’. To show your commitment to this event, we ask that every participant makes the first donation to their fundraising page. The donation must be a comfortable amount for you, but we would suggest somewhere around £50-£100. It has been proven that people who donate to sponsorship pages, often follow the lead from the first donation!
