Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home Launches New Education Programme
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, the region’s oldest animal welfare organisation, is delighted to launch its very own education programme to schools and organisations in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
The programme follows the appointment of the Home’s first education officer in early 2018, a role that was made possible by a grant awarded to the Home by The Kennel Club Educational Trust, and supported by a further grant from RS Macdonald Charitable Trust.
During 2018, the Home developed a range of fun, informative, and age-appropriate workshops, covering topics such as enrichment for animals, appropriate feeding for dogs and cats, safety around dogs and more. Many have been designed specifically with schools in mind and fit within a number of Curriculum for Excellence areas. Others are more suited to adult groups, clubs and workplaces, and all can be tailored to meet the needs of individual organisations.
Each workshop carries a central theme of animal sentience, with an aim to increase the public’s understanding of what it means to be a responsible pet owner. Despite being a nation of pet lovers, studies show that many UK pet owners fall short in their knowledge of the needs of our four-legged friends – an unfortunate reality that Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home and other animal welfare organisations see the result of on a regular basis.
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s Education Officer, Daniel Tipping, said:
“I’m delighted to be able to offer this programme on behalf of the Home, sharing deeper insights in to our work and what it means to be a responsible pet owner. Every one of us at the Home recognises the vital role that education plays in our line of work, not only to benefit dogs and cats everywhere, but to ensure that their owners have the necessary knowledge and confidence to help their pets live the best life possible.”
Visits from the Home’s education team are entirely free of charge and can be held at your location or at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home in Seafield. To make a booking or for further information, email Daniel at firstname.lastname@example.org.
