Find out more about how to reach our friendly team in Edinburgh today.
The Home has been undertaking door to door fundraising since May 2019 with fundraising agency SMILE Ltd. This type of fundraising is a cost-effective way for the Home to attract some of the £2 million income we require to run every year. However, we want to remain a socially responsible organisation and have been carefully following government and professional advice. We have made the decision to pause all door to door and private site fundraising and will not continue until advice states it would be safe to do so.
The COVID-19 outbreak has had a significant impact on the Home already and we are projecting in excess of £650,000 in financial losses. Now more than ever we need the support of the community to continue our vital work. If you are able to donate, please visit edch.org.uk/donate.
We work with SMILE Fundraising Ltd, a professional fundraising agency, to carry out a door to door and private site fundraising campaign throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians. This involves us setting up stands in local venues and knocking on doors throughout the area to talk to people about our work and asking them to support the Home with a regular gift.
Together with SMILE Fundraising Ltd, we have plans to ensure that all activity will be carried out in line with government guidelines and will continue to monitor this on a regular basis. Every single member of staff receives training and will be fully brief to conduct themselves in a safe and responsible manner.
The team will be wearing PPE and adhering to social distancing guidance. Additionally, the team have adapted to capture your donation via a contactless method.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Home has suffered in excess of £650,000 losses, From the cancellation of events, closure of our retail shops and boarding services, we need the support of our community more than ever. Our face to face fundraising team help to raise awareness and much needed support for the Home. In 2019 alone, helped to recruit over 2,000 brand new supporters.
Without this passionate team and wonderful supporters, we would not be here for the dogs and cats.
It costs us around £2 million every year to provide our vital care for stray, lost and abandoned dogs and cats. With the absence of any government or statutory funding, individual donations and support from our local community are vital to continue our work. This type of fundraising is a cost effective, low risk method of generating new support for the Home.
All agency staff will be wearing the Home’s branded uniform and will wear an ID badge. They will also have official Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home literature and will be carrying a tablet, which is used for signing up regular gifts. They will never ask you for a one-off donation or for a donation of cash or cheques.
At the bottom of this page you can check where the team will be fundraising each week. However, if a postcode is not included do not assume that a fundraiser is bogus, as occasionally fundraisers can cross over into the next town or village by mistake. The team can visit up until 9pm during the Summer months and 8.30pm in the Winter months (from October).
