Dog Photographer Celebrates Three Years of Volunteering

A specialist dog photographer, Cheryl Loney, has marked her third anniversary of volunteering for Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home.

Cheryl, of Edinburgh Dog Photography, has been visiting the Home every week for the last three years to take images of lost and abandoned dogs and cats. The images are used on the Home’s website and app, providing vital exposure for those seeking a second chance in a forever home.

Increasing Online Competition

With increasing use of the internet for those seeking to rehome dogs and cats, good quality images are proving vital to Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s rehoming activities, explains Director of Fundraising and Communications, Nicola Gunn. She said:

“We literally don’t know where we would be without Cheryl, her weekly commitment is invaluable to us. More and more people from across Scotland are using our rehoming services, but good quality images are imperative to showing off the animals’ best side in an increasingly competitive online market for dogs and cats.

“There are not many who would make the commitment that Cheryl does – she recently came back to work with us just six weeks after the arrival of her son, and I think that says it all.”

Volunteering is Good For The Soul

Cheryl said:“One of the moments I realised what an impact my work could make on the lives of dogs and cats in need was when I was taking some pictures of a rescue dog called Marvin. He was such an amazing boy and one of my friends ended up taking him home! Seeing how those pictures could make such an impact on the dog’s life is incredibly rewarding.

Volunteering is good for the soul and working with dogs in a loving environment is a wonderful experience – even better when they go off to their forever home. It’s been a fantastic three years.”

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home runs a volunteering programme, offering a range of opportunities in animal care, administration, fundraising and operations. In June it celebrated International Volunteers Week to recognise the significant contribution these volunteers make to the Home every year.
