Multi-skilled Facilities Tradesperson
Salary: £18,000 - £21,000

Working within a complex rescue and rehoming environment, the Facilities Tradesperson role is vital to the running of Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s operations. As our key maintenance person you will be committed to ensuring our site and charity shops are kept in a good state of repair and maintained safely for our furry residents and guests.
No two days will be the same, from fixing leaks and broken light fitttings, to re-tiling kennel walls and mowing lawns, you will be asked to do a bit of everything on site. When a problem arises that you can’t handle on your own you will work with your line manager to find a solution, gather quotes, and help oversee the project.
In addition to repairs and facilities supervision you will transport dogs and cats to the vet, as well as uplift or drop of donations for the home and charity shops as needed.
Given the nature of this role it is important that you have experience in building maintenance and can fulfil minor multi-trade maintenance requests. An understanding and awareness of health and safety is essential as well as a willingness to carry out further training as required.
The ideal candidate will hold a City & Guilds or NVQII (or equivalent), and will have received various vocational training. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role is required. In addition, we are looking for someone with:
- A current, clean driving licence;
- Good level of fitness to carry out manual tasks;
- Knowledge of safe manual handling and working at height;
- Working knowledge and experience of multiple trades;
- Good attention to detail;
- Experience using hand and power tools safely;
- Able to communicate clearly and work as part of a team
- Able to manage own time and work under own initiative to improve maintenance standards and meet deadlines;
- A flexible approach to working;
- Willing to work indoors or outdoors throughout the year and in various weather conditions;
- Willing to work with dogs and cats.

- Legal/Charity law
- Marketing and Communications
- Finance and Investment
These additional positions would form part of a dedicated team of trustees already in place and would help to strengthen the board and support the organisation into the future.
This is a great opportunity for someone who has an understanding of charity or similar corporate governance to join our Board of Trustees; to support the leadership of the charity, drive forward the organisational strategy and bring a solid networking background that can help our aims.
