Ultramarathon Runners Gobi and Dion to Lead Fun Run for Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home

A dog who achieved worldwide fame on her marathon journey to a forever home in Edinburgh will be take part in a fun run this August to raise awareness of the city’s own stray dogs and cats.

Gobi captured the hearts of dog lovers across the world, when she joined ultramarathon runner Dion Leonard in his 250km run across China’s deserts and mountains. Now reunited in Edinburgh, the pair are taking to Portobello Prom on 13 August for ‘Jog with Gobi’, a 2.5km fun run event to benefit Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home.

Dion described his motivation to do something to help Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home:

“Gobi’s life has changed forever as she now lives in Edinburgh, and Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is the perfect partner to launch the Jog with Gobi initiative to raise money to help other local stray/rescue animals in need and change their lives for the better.”

Nicola Gunn, Fundraising and Communications Director at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, said:

“Dion and Gobi’s story illustrates perfectly the special bond between a rescue pet and their owner, and at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home we are seeing these connections being made every day. The Home is so grateful to Dion and Gobi for helping us raise much-needed funds to care for our stray and unwanted dogs and cats until, like Gobi, they are lucky enough to find forever homes of their own.

“We look forward to welcoming Dion and Gobi to Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home on 13 August and hope that we will have plenty of local support for this fun event.”

Jog with Gobi will start and finish at 9:30am at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, Seafield Road East. It will take participants on a 2.5km route to Portobello and back via the seaside prom. Entry costs just £5 per adult and £3 per child (under 12). For more information visit www.edch.org.uk/Gobi or www.findinggobi.com.
