Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home Invites the Public to ‘Paws by the Prom’ this September

22/08/2018

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is gearing up to open its doors to the public for a special family event on Sunday 2 September.

The annual ‘Paws by the Prom’ open day will welcome supporters from across Edinburgh and the Lothians, to discover more about its work and enjoy a day of fun and entertainment. Visitors will enjoy kennel and cattery tours, pet competitions, a range of dog and cat-themed stalls, and children’s games.

Doggy demonstrations, an annual event highlight, will be provided by Zoom K9 Agility and Cani-Sports Edinburgh. MC for the day will be Forth One presenter Micky Gavin, who currently serves as an ambassador for Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, in his role as Animal Champion.

Nicola Gunn, the Home’s Director of Fundraising and Communications, said:

“We are thrilled to once again be welcoming the public to our Seafield rehoming centre at the end of the Portobello Prom. For over a century we have relied on the generosity of the public to keep these doors open, so it’s a fantastic occasion to celebrate this ongoing support, and showcase some of the animals who still desperately need homes.

“Paws by the Prom promises to be a day of fun for all the family, so we encourage as many people as possible, and their dogs, to join us.”

The annual Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home open day is once again expected to attract thousands of visitors from across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Entry is free for both humans and well-behaved dogs, on leads.

Stallholders at the event will include a range of pet, food and gift retailers, including Bark and Hare, Dog Furiendly, Lush Cosmetics, Bonnie Burrito, Bug Bakes, and more.

Dog and competitions and cat photo competitions, which start at 12pm, will celebrate Edinburgh’s pets, with categories like waggiest tail, most like owner, best rescue and best Grumpy Cat impression.
