Greyfriars Bobby Commemoration Day

Join Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home in commemorating Greyfriars Bobby this Saturday. The Home will be hosting a dog competition and visitor stand, with a tombola and information on rehoming and volunteering.

A service will be held at Greyfriars Kirkyard which will include a speech from the Lord Provost, a live bagpiper and a military performance by the Scottish Battlefields Trust. This tribute to Greyfriars Bobby provides a fitting service for the terrier that, nearly 150 years on, is still celebrated to this day as one of Edinburgh's most loved and photographed landmark tourist attractions.

Gather at Greyfriars Kirkyard at 12.45 for the ceremony and then proceed down to the Grassmarket for a reception in the Beehive Inn with drinks and nibbles provided.

The Royal Regiment of Scotland’s official mascot, Shetland pony 'Cruachan IV' will also be part of the ceremony and will be around to say hello to visitors at the market.
